A strongly-held belief in the animal rescue community is that the only way to stop the high volume of surrendered and abandoned animals is to educate people on de-sexing.

NRAS provides a subsidised de-sexing program through its Subsidised De-Sexing Partners to those suffering hardship, illness or difficult personal circumstances.

See below for contact details of Northern Rivers Vets committed to being part of the
NRAS Subsidised Desexing partnership or for specific enquiries email: sds@nras.org.au

All NRAS animals are DESEXED prior to Adoption.
Desexing can reduce behavioural problems such as roaming and aggression. However, it is also an EXTREMELY effective strategy in preventing unwanted pregnancies.
A large proportion of animals that are abandoned and come into NRAS care are due to unwanted litters.
Dogs can become pregnant from as early as 6 months and cats, from 4 months of age.

Whilst the National Desexing Network offers support in hardship cases, NRAS has its own Subsidised Desexing Partnership with local VETS where discounts & financial assistance are provided for desexing procedures.

Some local Northern Rivers Veterinary clinics also offer their own Subsidised Desexing promotions.
